The veneer and banding is applied to the drawer fronts on a single board. Once complete the board is sawn into three pieces and are dovetailed together with maple drawer parts to become the three drawers. The design of this piece is identical to the Carved Case of Drawers I had made a few years prior, except using veneering as the main decorative element rather than carving.
The use of Amboyna Burl on the drawer fronts pays homage to Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, famous Art Deco designer. The burl was sequenially cut and then arranged in a four-way bookmatch centering in the middle of the case. Nickle plated knobs elevate the piece to a higher state of lux.

The Heirloom Box is made of Black Walnut, Sugar Maple, Amboyna Burl, Brazilian Rosewood, Holly and Ebony. The knobs are nickle plated brass, and the drawers are all lined with a royal plum colored velvet. The box is finished with boiled linseed oil, shellac and paste wax.
