The
letter carving on the front of the chest was my first attempt at the
technique. The curved letters present the most difficulties and require
the proper shaped gouges. I was quite pleased with the results. |

The
dovetailed carcase meets the floor with help from an ogee bracket foot
base. The ogee is shaped using the cove cutting method on a tablesaw,
then finished with scrapers and sanding. |

The pulls stop at 90° and allow easy transport of the chest. |
The Carved Hope Chest is made of black cherry. It is finished with boiled linseed oil, shellac and paste wax. It was made as a gift for my father to give to his wife to house her family documents and photos. |
